What Do a Struggling Student,

a
National-Level Tutor,

and a
YouTuber Have in Common?

They’re all me.

I Wasn’t Always Good at This

I started in the fast lane.

I spent Years 7, 8, and 9 in my school’s accelerated program, surrounded by some of the brightest students.

I even won an Academic Excellence Award and took home first place in my school’s public speaking competition in Years 7 and 9 (beating the Year 12s - what can I say I love talking).

But when it came to Maths and Science,

I felt like I was always one step behind.

No matter how much I studied, it never fully clicked.

I memorised formulas. I did endless practice questions. But when it came time for tests, I felt stuck.

What changed?

I Needed a Different Approach

Something had to change.

I didn’t just need to study harder or use the usual “smart” techniques. I needed a completely different way of thinking.

So I stopped following the standard methods.

Instead, I explored unconventional ways to understand Maths and Science—ways that actually worked for me.

Once I shifted the way I studied

everything started making sense.

That shift led me to:

Earn a place at JMSS, one of Australia’s top science schools.

Discover new ways to break down complex topics.

Develop an approach to teaching that’s different from traditional tutoring.

Now, I help students see Maths, Science, and English in a way they’ve never seen before.

What I've Achieved Along the Way

(the numbers are probably higher, I stopped counting a while ago…)

5+ Years of tutoring

1,400+ Students taught

4,000+ Hours of teaching

200+ One-on-One Students

15+ Workshops & speeches at schools

Worked with 5+ schools to improve student outcomes

Consulting with Victoria’s most popular tutoring companies on education

Data only tells part of the story.

But what really matters is how these students feel—how they’ve grown, what they’ve learned, and how they see the subjects differently now.

Here’s what some of them had to say:

Behind Every Number Is a Student’s Story

Kara L. - Year 12 English Student 2022

“Even when I gave up on myself, he taught me to keep pushing.”

William H. - Year 12 Methods Student 2023

“I really struggled with Methods, but now I feel much more confident for my exam.”

Michelle W. - Year 12 English Student 2021

“He’s genuinely the best teacher I’ve had. Would always go above and beyond to get my essays back to me before a SAC. After becoming a tutor, I finally realised how much effort he puts in for his students.”

Eric B. - Year 12 Physics Student 2024

“The secret formula for good grades, I don’t know how I survived school without his help until now.”

Devin M. - Year 9 JMSS Preparation Student 2024

“The worksheets and corrections are really helpful, and the lessons cover everything comprehensively.”

Christine J. - Year 9 JMSS Preparation Student 2023

“Even though I passed the test for JMSS through another tutoring company, I wouldn’t have been able to pass the interview without Vihanga’s help.”

Anonymous. - Year 11 Methods Student 2025

“I can’t lie, I would always try to stump Vihanga in class by asking him to explain things I didn’t get tutoring for. But he explained it better than my teachers at school… mind-boggling”

Victoria J. - Parent of Year 11 Physics Student 2022

“He’s such a good role model. My son went from hating school and complaining about it, to being proud of his test scores and showing them off at the dinner table! I didn’t think a turnaround like that would be possible, I can’t thank Vihanga enough.”

Anonymous. - Year 12 English Student 2024

“The GOAT. Enough said.”

Aryan P. - Year 11 Chemistry Student 2021

“When I tell my friends I have a tutoring session, they ask me what I get tutored for. I don’t know what to say. Vihanga is my ‘everything tutor’. English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, life. He does literally everything.”

Anonymous. - Year 9 JMSS Preparation Student 2022

“I attended one of the workshops Vihanga ran, and you can just tell that he’s not trying to upsell you on courses and resources like other tutors or companies. He’s just passionate about teaching and wants everyone to excel regardless of where they go for tutoring. I think that’s what drew my parents into booking lessons with him.”

Lee C. - Parent of Year 12 English Student 2023

“I can’t thank him enough for being there for my daughter. He has so much on his plate with everyone else he trains, but he goes to incredible lengths for all his students. I don’t believe my daughter would have gotten through this year as good as she has without Vihanga”

Anonymous. - Year 12 Chemistry Student 2022

“I referred some of my friends to him, and they asked me ‘Where the f*** did you find him?’ Vihanga runs laps around every other tutor and doesn’t stop even when he’s passed them. He’s the teacher you never forget.”

Vinitha S. - Year 12 English Student 2024

“I went to an English tutor that charged $120 an hour but I still wasn’t getting the scores I wanted.

I had a free consultation with Vihanga and he told me exactly what I needed to do so I could get the grades I wanted. The next SAC I did what he said and I got the highest score I’ve ever had in English.

Needless to say, I stopped going to that other tutor and had lessons with him for the rest of VCE. He punches above the price in every regard.”

Making Learning Accessible—For Everyone

I know that not everyone has the opportunity for consistent tutoring, and that’s something I couldn’t just overlook.

So, I decided to do things differently. Every now and then, I share lessons, strategies, and ideas—completely free. It’s a way to break down the barriers that hold people back and offer support to anyone who needs it.

If you’re looking for a place to start, these videos are here for you. It’s not about growing an audience or boosting numbers; it’s simply about offering support to anyone who might need it. If something I share helps even one person, that’s enough for me.

Ideas Worth Sharing, Whenever You Need Them

Not everything I share is about learning or study strategies.

Not every lesson comes from a textbook.

Sometimes, it’s a new perspective, a story that sticks with you, or an idea that shifts how you approach challenges.

There’s more to learning than just study strategies.

Every now and then, I share a few things I’ve learned that stuck with me—things I wish I had heard earlier.

Sometimes, it’s just thoughts—on motivation, personal growth, or ideas that have resonated.

Just things that might help, or maybe just make you think a little differently.

If you’re curious, here are a few videos that go beyond study tips.
